These are loosely based on the Oatmeal bar recipe on p. 434 in Spice and Spirit by Leah
Lipszyc.
They are made in a very large pan or about the size of 2 9″x13″ pans.

Mix together:
2 1/2 c. WHEAT flour
2 cups sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. vanilla sugar
2 cups BARLEY flakes
1 cup coconut (optional)
2 cups chocolate chips (1/2 regular and 1/2 colored or white is nice)
1 c. sliced ALMONDS
1 c. RAISINS (DRIED GRAPES)

Add:
3-4 Tbsp. honey
3/4 c. vegetable oil
1/4 c. Olive oil
3 extra large eggs
1 Tbsp POMEGRANATE juice
1/2 cup chopped DATES
1/2 cup cut up FIGS

Mix well and pour into greased pan or pans.

Bake at 350 degrees F. (185 degrees C.) 25-30 minutes or until done. They should be
chewy, not hard. Cut in squares.
