Refael Elisha Cohen from Houston, Texas is a young boy of 6. He is suffering with medulloblastoma, a highly malignant brain tumor. He had surgery to remove the brain tumor 14 months ago, followed by radiation and chemotherapy. He went into remission for a short time and the family thought he was getting better, but a routine MRI for post-treatment care showed otherwise. He was sent home by the doctors who told the family that they have nothing more they can do.
The family has heard of another treatment that is unfortunately not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. They have created a petition that would allow this child to have the treatment that is their last string of hope.
This family lives in Houston, Texas, very close to my house and it would mean a lot to me, the Cohen family, and the entire Jewish community if you help.
Now the question is, HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Well, the answer is quite simple.
There are many, many things that you can do to help. This is a short list of some things that can make a difference.
- Daven (PRAY) His full name is Rafael Elisha Meir Ben Devorah. Any amount of davening can help make a difference. If you live near a Tzadik’s Kever (gravesite) or the Kotel please make an effort to go there
- Take on a Hachlata (RESOLUTION) to do something extra in his merit. Anything from Lighting Shabbos Candles to giving a little extra Tzedaka everyday would help. If you feel comfortable you can feel free to share your Hachlata in the comments below the post.
- Sign the petition and encourage others to sign it. You can sign by clicking here.

My class was already davening for him, and so I sent an email to my friends of this so they could sign it. But yes, it seems we have about 300 more than we need! Yay! What happens now?
