Win a $50 gift certificate to Artscroll & get published in YALDAH!
Eligibility: The fiction contest is open to all Jewish girls ages 8-17. Entries will be judged in two age categories: ages 8-12, and ages 13-17.
Qualified Entries: Qualified entries should be a fictional short-story between 1500 and 2000 words. The story should be about Jewish girls, but the plot doesn’t have to be particularly Jewish-themed. We’re looking for a well-developed story with a beginning, middle, and end, conflict, resolution, and interesting characters. It’s a good idea to have a parent or teacher help you revise your entry before submitting it, but the story must be written solely by the entrant and have not been previously published.
To enter: Entries must be received by September 25th, 2011 at 11:59 pm EST. To enter by e-mail: E-mail your story along with your full name, date of birth, mailing address, phone number, and e-mail address to email@example.com. Write “fiction contest” in the subject of the e-mail. To enter by mail: Mail your story along with your full name, date of birth, mailing address, phone number, and e-mail address to: YALDAH fiction contest P.O. Box 215 Sharon, MA 02067
Judging: Entries will by judged by award-winning author, Sonia Levitin (see our interview with her on page 15). Entries will be judged on: 50% writing quality, 20% compelling plot, 20% creativity, and 10 % relatability to Jewish girls. Age will be taken into consideration during the judging process. Five finalists will be selected from each age group (8-12 and 13-17) and from the finalists one grand prize winner will be chosen in each age group.
Prizes: Each grand prize winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to Artscroll Jewish books and have their winning story published in the Winter 2011-12 issue of YALDAH. Finalists will be listed inside the magazine and may have their stories published in future issues of YALDAH.
