On Friday night

A small flame’s light

Fills my home with glow

The red sun drops

And all work stops

“It’s Shabbos,” all Jews know.

When shadows fall

For help we call

One small flame breaks the night

We’ll never see

The sheer beauty

Of one flame’s shining light.

Outside rain pours

And a harsh wind roars

Yet no one seems to care

The whole world sings

Despite the winds

Shalom Aleichem” fills the air.

On Friday night

Our candlelight

Is a torch for all to see

And every part

Brightens the heart

Inside of you and me.
