About Lag B’Omer:
Lag B’Omer is the Hebrew for the 33rd day of counting the Omer – the seven week period between the holidays of Passover and Shavuos.
It is treasured by Jewish children and adults throughout the world as a day of outings and parades, that celebrate Jewish unity and pride.

Lag B’Omer commemorates the cessation of the tragic plague which killed thousands of (the Talmudic sage) Rabbi Akiva’s disciples.
It is also the anniversary of the passing of one of Rabbi Akiva’s greatest students, Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, author of the Zohar – which contains the secrets of Kabalah and Chasidic philosophy – also known as the “Rashbi.”

Just before Rabbi Shimon (the Rashbi) passed away on Lag B’Omer he merited his highest revelations, dictated his deepest teachings and ordered his pupils to rejoice on that day, every year thereafter.

Thousands of people make the annual pilgrimage up to the Israeli city of Miron (near Tzefat) to be near the Rashbi’s holy grave sight on this special day. They camp out along the road, make barbecues & large bon fires.
