Hey there!

O.K. I know you’ve heard this a bajillion times, but you just gotta drink your water. It’s something which even the best of us forget to do. You know, it’s summer, you’re just doing your own thing – not related to school or work in any sense of the word. Chances are, you’re enjoying it (that’s the point of summer vacation, isn’t it?), and you forget about just about everything else… including the water you’re meant to drink. But, you better not!

Drinking is non-negotiable all year round, and especially during the summer. Why? Read on to find out.

Your body is made up of lots of things, and 80% of ‘those things’ is water. Yeah, water. So when the sun’s beating on you, and your body is heating up, guess what happens? I’ll give you a hint: Ever saw a pot of boiling water? Yes? Good. So you’ll probably notice lots of  steam. What’s steam? Evaporated water. You get the idea. So if it’s hot and you’re body is losing water, what do you do? You drink of course.

We want to prevent dehydration – losing water- so we drink even before, so if we lose water, we’re safe (some symptoms of dehydration: increased thirst, dry mouth and swollen tongue, weakness, dizziness, confusion, sluggishness fainting, fainting, inability to sweat). Drinking also prevents sunstroke, which is basically when the body starts shutting down if it loses tons of water, in other words severe dehydration. Drinking water also has cosmetic benefits (The Water Matter). So just stay safe and drink lots and lots of water.

If you’re the type who doesn’t really enjoy plain H2o, you can try to spruce it up with some lemon or try herbal tea (raspberry flavor is yum!). I wouldn’t recommend soda, diet too since it makes you even more thirsty (besides the fact that it’s empty calories). In fact, especially diet. However, If you’d give me a choice of diet or classic soda, I’d take classic. Why? The fake sugar in diet is terrible for you, but more on that later.

Anyways, I got to go. I’ll keep you posted.

Have a healthy and happy summer!
