A Shabbos candle-lighting poem by Yehudis Spielman, age 12 from Brooklyn, NY

***

Every Friday night,

When the stars are shining bright,

And the Friday rush,

Finally comes to a hush.

All the drama from the past week,

Now peace is what I seek,

And as Shabbos draws nearer,

The light becomes clearer.

As I cover my eyes before my candle,

And as it shines bright,

I think of all the light,

That I’m bringing into the night,

And throughout the entire world.
