For the first project I thought a nice squishy patchwork pillow would be fun.
Here’s how to make it.
Materials:
Fiberfill about a pound
Thread to match fabric – one spool (if using a sewing machine you need a bobbin too).
Fabric – 2 colors, 3 colors or 5 coloor
2 Colors:
1 yard of first color
1/2 yard of second color
3 colors:
3/4 yard first color
1/2 yard of second and third colors
5 colors (will make two pillows)
3/4 yard of first color
1/2 yard of each of the other colors
All seams should be 15 cm or 5/8 inch. This project can be sewn by hand or on the machine
Step 1:
Cut one rectangle 22 x 19 inches
Cut 4 rectangles 11 x 13 inches
Step two:
Lay out fabric so that the rectangles form a larger rectangle that looks almost like a square.
Lay out fabric so that it is in the order you like
Step three:
Pin right sides together of two of the rectangles that are next to one another so that it looks like one of
the small rectangles.
Step 4: Sew along one of the short side
Step 5: Repeat steps 3 and 4 with the other small rectangles.
Step 6: Open each of the two longer rectancles and pin right sides together of the long thin rectangles.
Step 7: Sew the two long rectangles together along the long seam
Step 8: Open up the new rectangle (it should be the same size as the big rectangle).
Step 9: Pin rectangles together right sides togher
Step 10: Sew all four sides leaving about a 3 inch opening so that you can turn it
Step 11: Make sure all pins have been removed and turn right side out.
Step 12: Stuff it so is as fluffy as you like
Step 13: Sew opening closed.
Step 14: Enjoy for yourself or give as a gift!
I am so excited to make it although I have already made a pillow but, I may give it to a friend! Thanks so much for posting such easy instructions!
Thanks… I love making pillows. I gave one I made for one of my teachers. I had made it as the project to go with a book report.
awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This looks like so much fun – I love sewing, so I’m going to have to try this out!
