The Bracha of יברכך is a very beautiful Bracha which we say every morning to ask for blessing, protection, and peace from Hashem.
Have you ever noticed, on a shampoo bottle, it might advertise how effective it is by writing that it is triple or quadruple times as effective as regular shampoo? The Bracha of Yevorechicha is very similar. It has four different parts that each bless us in an individual way.
1: The first word, יברכך, meaning “G-d should bless you” is a Bracha for success in all physical aspects of our life. We ask Hashem to give us Parnasa, wealth, and bounty so that we can live comfortably and learn Torah.
2: The next category also only includes one word. The word וישמרך, means “G-d should protect you”. It blesses us with protection from those who are out to cause harm. If you have wealth and many valuable objects (which is what we are blessed with in the first section), you need to have somebody that would protect you. Hashem secures us when we say this part of the Bracha. This Bracha also protects us from spiritual harm caused by the bad influence of the Yetzer Hara.
3: The third part יאר ה’ פניו אליך ויחנך, means “may G-d shine his countenance upon you and be gracious to you. Someone who is wise has a face that is lit up, just like Moshe Rabbeinu’s. True wisdom is wisdom of Torah learning, which is all-encompassing. In this section, we ask Hashem to open up our eyes so that we can see the wisdom of the Torah and internalize them. Hashem should illuminate our days with the light of Torah and Mitzvos.
4: The last sections, ישא ה’ פניו אליך וישם לך שלום means “May G-d turn his countenance upon you and bless you with peace”. The peace that we are asking for here is referring to Olam Haba. We want to be deserving of the eternal peace of Olam Haba and Mashiach.
In Adar, we try to increase in happiness. On of the most powerful to become happier is to have more peace and protection in our lives. Most of the time, neither peace nor protection is not something that we have full control over. We cannot step in between flying bullets and try to make a peace agreement between two enemies and we can’t hire twenty-thousand armed guards to patrol the neighborhood and guard us. But there is something that we can do. We can Daven to Hashem through this all-encompassing Bracha.. Hashem will listen to our prayers to Him and bring happiness, peace, blessing and protection through the Geula now!
