The Shabbos light,

Still burning bright,

All through the night,

No end in sight.

A flame, a wick,

A wooden stick,

Through thin and thick,

It’s hidden quick

An open door,

A scream, a roar,

A cold hard floor,

And pain no more.

Sensation felt,

Of leather belt,

A candle melt,

On swelling welt.

A sacrifice

Not worth the price,

A whipping slice,

Don’t feel so nice.

In prison cell,

A scream, a yell,

A ringing bell,

A body’s swell

Some rations saved,

The food not craved,

The rules can’t waive,

All must behave.

A thread within,

In margarine,

With fire’s spin,

Shabbos begin.

This Shabbos light,

Still burning bright,

All through the night,

No end in sight.
