Hi There!

I’m sorry I haven’t blogged for a while- it was my Bat Mitzvah!

It was loads of fun, but I’ll save it for a different post!

It’s time to start planning your party!

Here are a few tips to help you get started:

1. Get a Bat Mitzvah Notebook

Get yourself a notebook where you can record all the information you need. Write down all the important details in this notebook.

2. Choose a Theme

Choosing a theme will help you narrow down the search for activities you want at your party. Don’t just choose a random thing- choose something you enjoy!

3.  Keeping Your Speech Short

Friends and relatives won’t want to sit there and listen to you drone on and on and on… Keep your speech friendly and short- maybe put a few jokes in it.  Connect your speech to your birthday- you can do it on the Parsha (Torah Portion), on the Hayom Yom of your birthday- something nice and simple.

4. Sign-in Board

Get a board with a picture of you on it, and let your friends sign around the picture. It’s cute, and it’s a great keepsake!

5. Table Set-Up

If you’re doing your party in your house or in a small hall, set up the tables in a way that everyone feels comfortable getting up food. Otherwise, people will be hungry, and you’ll be stuck with lots of extra food!

6. Be Organized

Make a schedule for yourself. Make sure there are no pauses where people are just sitting around, waiting for action. Make a backup plan, so if your intended one doesn’t work out, your friends aren’t bored.

7. Relatives vs. Friends

If you are having both relatives and friends at the same party, don’t totally ignore one group. Divide your attention- your friends will feel out of place if you are hanging out with your favorite cousin whom you haven’t seen in ages the whole time, and vica versa. Make sure everyone feels comfortable.

8.  Time to End

As much as you want to party until 3 a.m., it’s probably not going to happen. Guests will really appreciate it if you tell them around what time the party will end.  Putting an ending time on the invitation will help them a lot, and it will help you decide how many activities you need to keep your guests busy.

9. Invitations

Give out your invitations 3 weeks before your special day. Giving it out too early will probably culminate in people losing the invitations or forgetting about it.

10. Make it Fun

Make it fun! You want your friends to have a good time, don’t you? Choose activities that everyone will enjoy, and make sure everyone will be involved.

11. Keep Track of R.S.V.P.’s

Asking people to R.S.V.P. will help you keep track of how many people are coming. Keep track of them and always set a few extra seats- someone might’ve forgotten to respond.

12. Start Planning Early

Don’t start planning last minute! Doing that will create great havoc, and you might not be able to get things you wanted. Start planning about 1-3 months before your bat mitzvah-just enough time to get everything you need!

I hope these tips helped you start planning for your special day!

Look out for my next post!
