“Avinu Malkeinu” – “Our father, King” is recited on Rosh Hashanah and during the days called The 10 days of Repentance between Rosh Hashanah and on Yom Kippur as well. Therefore, I thought it would be an appropriate song to share with everyone. Undoubtedly, it is a sad and somber song, but I found that while playing it, my spirits were lifted. I think that is the power of music: it contains so many emotions below the superficial level that it hits everyone differently. Twenty people could listen to the same song and come about with different interpretations of it.

Here’s a little background on me: my name is Riva, I love music, and I am currently a senior in high school. I’ve been playing piano for about five years after my grandfather bought me my first piano. Since then, I think it would be safe to say I have a mild addiction to it. :-)
